Three years after his death in 1934, the house became the Italian Consulate. During World War II, the house was was confiscated as "alien territory", and from 1943-1961 the Royal Canadian Mounted Police utilised it a headquarters and barracks. The Italian gvernment bought the property back in 1961, and now it functions again as the Italian Consulate.
